Book lecture at the National Archives on Wednesday, February 29, at noon Author Elizabeth Dowling Taylor discusses the life of Paul  Jennings, who was born into slavery on the plantation of James and  Dolley Madison and later became a part of the Madison household staff at  the White House. After achieving emancipation, Jennings would write the  first White House memoir, see his sons fight with the Union Army in the  Civil War, and give money from his own pocket to an aged and  impoverished Dolley Madison.
A book signing will follow the program.
