In 1973, the Soviet Women’s Gymnastics Team visited the White House as part of a tour of the United States after winning gold in the 1972 Summer Games in Munich.
Gold medalist Olga Korbut is standing next to President Nixon. The “Korbut Flip” is named after a move she performed in 1972 when she stood on the top bar and performed a backward release move. It is no longer allowed on the uneven bars, but this move is still performed on the balance beam.
