These immigrant children were photographed at Ellis Island in New York in 1908. The image is part of our exhibit “Attachments: Faces and Stories from America’s Gates,” which closes on September 4.
“My grandfather, Paolo Ferriero, was 15 when he left his home in Melito Irpino, Italy, and sailed for America in 1903. My grandmother, Antoinetta Giorgia, followed 10 years later aboard a ship named the Romantic.” - David S. Ferriero, Archivist of the United States, in the foreword to the “Attachments” catalog.
Is your family’s story here? Visit before the exhibit closes!
